The People´s Deputies, representatives of the Ministries and departments, industrial associations and enterprises, local authority and self-government bodies, and public associations attended the round table discussion.

N.Korolevska, Committee Chairman, opened the meeting. She stressed the necessity of adopting short-term programs of the mining and smelting sector development.

According to N.Korolevska, "the mining and smelting sector should become a driving force of the economic development; governmental incentives for its further support and development will determine the economic organization." N.Korolevska stated that the mining and smelting sector is a leading industry branch of Ukraine. Its share constitutes almost 12% of GDP, more than 42% of currency earnings.

The People´s Deputies object to the further use of privileges envisaged by the Memorandum of Mutual Understanding between the Cabinet of Ministers and the Enterprises of the Mining and Smelting Sector to the detriment of energy and transport companies. They stated that the Memorandum had been "an anti-recessional short-term action that no longer fulfills its functions."

The Committee Chairman deems necessary to develop domestic market, as Ukraine has a reserve to increase consumption of production of the mining and smelting industry. It includes the lack of housing, holding of the EURO-2012 football championship, depreciation of pipe utility facilities, etc.

The Bill "On Enhancement of Competitive Ability of Enterprises of the Mining and Smelting, and Chemical Sectors" was presented at the meeting. The Bill entitles these enterprises to take state-guaranteed credits.

The People´s Deputies believe that the suggested measures will prevent diversion of floating assets in the amount of UAH 400 million per month, as well as continue innovation programs beneficial for Ukrainian economy.
